Advancing the Kingdom
The Bible speaks regularly about the Kingdom of God; God’s rule over every aspect of creation. It was a regular feature of Jesus’ teaching, and is broad in its application. God’s rule affects men and women’s standing before God (Luke 19:1-10; Luke 8:43-48). It includes physical healing, and the supplying of man’s basic needs (Luke 9:10-17). It includes ministering to people from every nation (Luke 7:1-10) and bringing people into a new community in which they can find acceptance and care (Mark 2:15-17). Jesus even anticipated that creation itself would one day reflect God’s perfect will (Mark 4:35-41). He charged his followers to both work (sending out the 12 and the 72, Luke 9:1-2; 10:1) and pray for, God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:10).
This understanding of the Kingdom of God affects every part of our mission.

Restoring the Church
We are passionate about the Church. One of the primary reasons for this is that God is passionate about the Church (Eph 5:25-27). The New Testament describes the Church as being God’s people, His household (Ephesians 2:19), and a body in which everybody has a role to play (1 Corinthians 12:12-31).
The New Testament lays down principles for all of life, and should therefore shape not only the way we live as individuals, but also the way in which we build churches. We believe that churches should be a place where people can experience the dynamic presence of the Spirit, where people use their gifts to encourage and build each other up (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
We believe too that God has given specific gifts for the strengthening of the church (Eph 4:8). These gifts are people: apostles, prophets, evangelists and pastors/teachers (Eph 4:11) and their function is to ‘prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up’ (Eph 4:12). We recognise these gifts to be vital for fulfilling our mission.
Our churches will all look quite different in style, but typical characteristics will include regular Sunday gatherings in which we worship God through song and hear teaching from the Bible. Additionally, many churches run mid-week small groups, and courses to help equip people for various aspects of life.
Two key ways in which the church seeks to advance the kingdom include:
Care for the poor: Much of Jesus’ time was spent with the poor and the marginalised. He described his mission like this: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour’ (Luke 4:18-19, quoting Isaiah 61:1-2).
The message of the Gospel is holistic, and God cares very much about people’s physical and emotional lives, as well as their spiritual lives. Therefore, we want to build churches that care for every part of man. Our churches should seek to care for the poor and oppressed, provide community for the lonely and help for the helpless. Many of our churches run Social Action projects, or partner with others to care for people in their locality.
We are also providing resources to help people develop this side of our mission, including the Jubilee+ website and conference.
Being Salt and Light: In Matthew 5:13, Jesus told us to be salt and light. These are evocative pictures of how the church it to be in society. Salt has a preservative effect, holding off decay. Light penetrates darkness and helps people to see. Jesus said that the Church should be like this; helping to withstand decay in society, enhancing the good that is already there, and bringing hope through out message.
We believe that as individuals, we should seek to take responsibility for whatever area we find ourselves in, demonstrating God in everything we do; in our work, our relationships, our leisure and our neighbourhoods. Making Disciples
Jesus’ final instructions were to ‘go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you’ (Matthew 28:19-20). This command is at the very core of our mission. We are to preach the message of the Gospel, that, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God is reconciling people back to Him, forgiving our sins, and giving us new life. To this end, many of our churches run Alpha courses, which are designed to help people explore issues of faith and to understand Christianity.
However, Jesus didn’t instruct us simply to make ‘converts’, but rather ‘disciples.’ These are people who are prepared to make Jesus Lord in every area of their lives. One of the core aims of our churches is to help people deepen in their spiritual lives; learning to understand and apply the Bible, pray, worship God, and grow deeper and stronger in their character.

Training Leaders
Healthy churches require good leadership, so we prioritise the training of effective leaders who can direct, motivate and protect the church.
We make it a priority to train people to be effective in all areas of church leadership, and to this end we run a number of regular training courses, details of which can be found on our training website -
Starting Churches
We believe that strong nations benefit from strong churches. The New Testament, in particular the book of Acts, puts a high value on planting new communities that care for one another, and advance the kingdom.
Paul describes the church as being God’s chosen method of making known his ‘multi-coloured’ wisdom (Ephesians 3:9-10). Churches should reflect the full diversity of the mission of God. They should have a positive effect on the communities around them, meeting people’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. They must preach the message of salvation for every part of man; forgiveness from sins, reconciliation to God, good news to the poor, freedom for the captives, comfort to those who mourn.
Because the church has such potential for demonstrating God’s wisdom and mission, we are committed to planting new churches in every part of this nation.
Currently we have around 230 Newfrontiers churches in the United Kingdom, and we feel that God has encouraged us to expect that number to rise to 400 in the coming years. Reaching the Nations
Reaching the Nations
Jesus instructed us to make disciples of ‘all nations’ (Matthew 28:19), and the Bible ends with a beautiful picture of people from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before the throne of God, worshipping together (Revelation 7:9). We are passionate about seeing churches planted right across the world, and for some this will involve moving overseas to be part of God’s plan to reach the nations.
Many of us, too, live in multicultural cities, and have the nations on our doorstep. We therefore seek to build churches that are welcoming and accessible to people from all ethnic backgrounds, and which are representative of our communities.
